Abstract Seismic data for 1965–68 from stations in the region show two low longitudinal (P) velocity channels at 100–130 km and 400–450 km which correlate with two such channels reported in the Japanese Islands. Spatial distribution of hypocentres for 1963–69 suggests several recognisable surfaces but not a single overall picture, thus neither proving nor disproving the concepts of Isacks et al. (1968). Grover (1967) is not supported.
