[1] The Region-Time-Length (RTL) method was adopted in analyzing the characteristics of the seismicity changes prior to the Ms8.0 Wenchuan earthquake occurred on May 12, 2008. After the pre-analyses (completeness analysis and aftershock declustering) of the earthquake catalog in China, the RTL parameters in the investigated region were calculated. The temporal variations of the RTL parameters at the epicenter of the Ms8.0 Wenchuan earthquake showed that a seismic quiescence anomaly appeared… Expand
Seismicity Pattern Changes Prior to the 2008 Ms7.3 Yutian Earthquake
TLDR
The spatio-temporal seismicity changes prior to the inland normal faulting Yutian earthquake showed similar features to those reported for some past strong earthquakes with inland strike faulting or thrust faulting, consistent with that obtained from the temporal changes of seismicity. Expand
Retrospective investigation of geophysical data possibly associated with the Ms8.0 Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan, China
Abstract The Ms8.0 Wenchuan earthquake is one of the most catastrophic earthquakes occurred recently. Although the geophysical network around the epicentral region is not dense enough partially dueExpand
Spatiotemporal Variations of Seismic Quiescence prior to the 2011 M 9.0 Tohoku Earthquake Revealed by an Improved Region–Time–Length Algorithm
The region–time–length (RTL) algorithm, which takes into account the epicenter, time, and magnitude of earthquakes, is an effective technique in detecting seismic quiescence. In order to reduce theExpand
Precursory seismicity changes prior to major earthquakes along the Sumatra-Andaman subduction zone: a region-time-length algorithm approach
In this study, we investigated the precursory seismicity changes related to the major earthquakes posed along the Sumatra-Andaman subduction zone (SASZ) using the region-time-length (RTL) algorithm.Expand
2012 seismicity quiescence in Taiwan a result of site-effect artifacts
ABSTRACT A significant seismic quiescence in Taiwan was reported by Wu and Chiao (2006) before the occurrence of the 1999 M w  7.6 Chi‐Chi earthquake. A similar kind of activity was also observed inExpand
Detrended fluctuation analysis of seismicity and order parameter fluctuations before the M7.1 Ridgecrest earthquake
Detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) has been recently applied for the investigation of temporal correlations between the earthquake magnitudes before major earthquakes. Here, we employ DFA togetherExpand
Analyses of seismicity parameters of the August 11th, 2012, Ahar-Varzaghan earthquakes in north-western Iran
North-western Iran (Azerbaijan province), one of the most seismic regions of the country, has experienced many seismic events during its long history. The recent dual earthquake with Mw = 6:4 and MwExpand
Seismicity Pattern Changes before the M = 4.8 Aeolian Archipelago (Italy) Earthquake of August 16, 2010
TLDR
The results obtained reveal 6-7 months of seismic quiescence which started about 15 months before the earthquake, which suggests a relationship between quiescent and the Aeolian Archipelago regional tectonics. Expand
Hydrothermal anomalies of the Earth's surface and crustal seismicity related to Ms8.0 Wenchuan EQ
Hydrothermal anomalies related to the Ms8.0 Wenchuan earthquake (EQ) on May 12, 2009, have been widely reported. However, the reported anomalies have not been associated with multi-geosphereExpand
MW9 Tohoku earthquake in 2011 in Japan: precursors uncovered by natural time analysis
This paper reviews the precursory phenomena of the 2011 MW9 Tohoku earthquake in Japan that emerge solely when we analyze the seismicity data in a new time domain termed natural time. If we do notExpand
