The paper of Seignot in 1961 1 is the first clinical description of the use of haloperidol to treat the symptoms of Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS). It is widely quoted in literature about GTS. However, it is not widely known that the single case involved had been subject to a frontal lobectomy prior to treatment with haloperidol. We present a translation of that paper and a discussion of its significance.
CORRELATOS BIOLÓGICOS DEL SÍNDROME DE GILLES DE LA TOURETTE
The Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS) is a rare and clinically heterogenoeus neuropsychiatric disorder seen in worldwide and defined by waxing and waning simple and complex motor and phonic tics,
Gilles de la Tourette Syndrome: symptomatic treatment based on evidence
TLDR
The oldest and still most widely prescribed drug, haloperidol, should now not be considered the firstline agent in children as other agents have superior adverse effects profiles and further data from blinded trials are required.

TLDR
It is suggested that TS is heterogeneous from a variety of standpoints including clinical presentation and psychopathology, and thus neuropharmacological responses and possibly even aetiological and genetic mechanisms are possible.
Update on the role of antipsychotics in the treatment of Tourette syndrome
TLDR
The present review aims to summarize the current and evidence-based knowledge on the risk-benefit ratio of both first and second generation neuroleptics in TS.
The psychopathological spectrum of Gilles de la Tourette syndrome
he psychopathological spectrum of Gilles de la Tourette syndrome
TLDR
The present article focuses on the relationship between GTS and obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), attention-deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), affective disorders (both major depression and bipolar affective disorder), and personality disorders.
Advances in Gilles de la Tourette Syndrome: Preliminary Results in a Cohort of 10 Patients Treated with DBS
TLDR
It has been observed that patients with TS often complain also of Obsessive Compulsive Behavior (OCB) and/or of Attention Deficit Hyperac, and a rating score for the video assessment of the disease which takes into account the anatomic location of tics, types of vocal tic, the severity and the frequency.
Current Approaches and New Developments in the Pharmacological Management of Tourette Syndrome
TLDR
Clinical experience gained from treating TS has helped us better understand its pathogenesis and, as a result, derive treatment options, and the strongest data exist for the antipsychotic agents, both typical and atypical.
