Until very recently, phonology has been neglected as an area in the study of Creole languages (Bhatt & Plag 2006b, Plag 2003b). Thus, it is perhaps not surprising to note that typological work on Creole phonologies is exceedingly rare. Consequently, when phonological generalizations intended to hold across Creole languages are invoked in the literature, they tend not to be founded on a systematic sample, or the geographical focus centers either on Atlantic or Pacific creoles.
