Spherites--round laminated membrane bound structures--are located in the cytoplasm of all cell types of the midgut gland in the harvestmen Gyas annulatus. The spherites consist of an organic matrix composed of glycoproteins and proteoglycans whose sugar portion are carboxylated glycosaminoglycans.
