This paper aims at knowing the seasonal occurrence of grasshoppers (Orthoptera: Acridoidea) in Uruguay. The populations of these native herbivores are generally in equilibrium, although population increases were recorded under certain conditions, causing significant economic loss. The population was monitored during five seasons on sites located in the departments of Florida and Durazno. The insects were categorized into young nymphs (I, II and III), older nymphs (IV and V), and adults. At each…

Seasonal Occurrence of Life Stages of Grasshoppers (Orthoptera: Acridoidea) in the Southern Pampas, Argentina
TLDR
The seasonal occurrence of life stages of grasshopper species of the Southern Pampas was studied through sampling of representative habitats for 5 seasons, with only 1 species (Sinipta dalmani) spent the winter as a nymph.
Rangeland Grasshoppers (Orthoptera: Acrididae): Modeling Phenology of Natural Populations of Six Species
TLDR
Interspecific comparisons indicated that of the six species, Melanoplus infantilis Scudder developed fastest, and the model design, assumptions, and applications as a descriptive tool are discussed, as are potential uses of the model to pest managers.
Grasshopper (Orthoptera: Acrididae) community composition and temporal variation in the Pampas, Argentina
TLDR
Although Dichroplus elongatus, Covasacris albitarsis, and Scotussa lemniscata were the three topranked species throughout the studied period, D. elongatus contributed most to overall shifts in grasshopper density.
Temporal variation in rangeland grasshopper (Orthoptera: Acrididae) communities in the steppe region of Montana, USA.
A study was conducted to evaluate changes in rangeland grasshopper communities over a 5-year period in the Agropyron spicatum (Pursh) Scribn. and Smith and Bouteloua gracilis (H.B.K.) Lag. provinces
Voltinism in the melanopline grasshopper Dichroplus elongatus Giglio-Tos (Orthoptera: Acrididae: Melanoplinae)
TLDR
Through captive rearing of individuals from an area where bivoltinism was recently postulated and either immediate subsequent incubation or incubation after refrigeration of the resulting egg-pods, it is determined that D. elongatus has obligatory embryonic diapause and one generation a year.
Postdiapause Development and Hatching Rate of Three Grasshopper Species (Orthoptera: Acrididae) in Inner Mongolia
TLDR
The results suggest that postdiapause embryonic developmental rate and accumulated heat cannot help to explain the different hatching sequences of these species.
Temporal constancy in grasshopper assemblies (Orthoptera: Acrididae)
TLDR
Temporal constancy in the structure of grasshopper assemblies from two types of North American grasslands was assessed and variability in population change was intermediate along the spectrum of organisms which have been studied.
Differences in post-diapause thermal requirements for eggs of two rangeland grasshoppers.
TLDR
Much of the variation in springtime emergence could be attributed to species-specific oviposition sites, pod depth, and pod orientation that resulted in A .
GRASSHOPPER (ACRIDIDAE) — HOST PLANT ASSOCIATIONS: RESPONSE OF GRASSHOPPER POPULATIONS TO CATTLE GRAZING INTENSITY
TLDR
Monitoring of grasshopper populations in six differentially grazed pastures of native shortgrass prairie found that changes in abundance would also be accompanied by shifts in the grasshoppers species complex.
A Perspective of Grasshopper Population Distribution in Saskatchewan and Interrelationship with Weather
TLDR
A damage index was developed to associate grasshopper density with the heat-precipitation ratio based on variable penetration of grasshoppers into the crop and the correlation between these probabilities was high.
