The insertion of genes encoding insecticidal Cry1A delta-endotoxins from the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner variety kurstaki (Bt) into varieties of cotton (Gossypium spp.) was undertaken to assist in the control of a range of lepidopteran pests.
