$^{\rm {180m}}$Ta is the rarest naturally occurring quasi-stable isotope and the longest lived metastable state which is known. Its possible decay via the $\beta^-$ or the electron capture channel has never been observed. This article presents a search for the decay of $^{\rm {180m}}$Ta with an ultra low background Sandwich HPGe gamma spectrometry setup in the HADES underground laboratory. No signal is observed and improved lower partial half-life limits are set with a Bayesian analysis to $5.8…

Experimental searches for rare alpha and beta decays
Abstract. The current status of the experimental searches for rare alpha and beta decays is reviewed. Several interesting observations of alpha and beta decays, previously unseen due to their large
Search for dark matter induced de-excitation of $^{180}$Ta$\rm ^m$
Weak-scale dark matter particles, in collisions with nuclei, can mediate transitions between different nuclear energy levels. In particular, owing to sizeable momentum exchange, dark matter particles
Search for Dark Matter Induced Deexcitation of ^{180}Ta^{m}.
This Letter utilizes data from a past experiment with ^{180}Ta^{m} to search for γ lines that would accompany dark matter induced de-excitation of this isomer and derives novel constraints on dark matter models with strongly interacting relics and on models with inelastic dark matter particles.
Exploratory study of the 180mTa(γ,γ′)180Ta reaction with mono-energetic low-energy photon beams at HIγS
Development of CANDLES Low Background HPGe Detector and Half-life Measurement of 180Tam
A low background HPGe detector system was developed at CANDLES Experimental Hall for multipurpose use. Various low background techniques were employed, including hermatic shield design, radon gas
Metastable nuclear isomers as dark matter accelerators
Inelastic dark matter and strongly interacting dark matter are poorly constrained by direct detection experiments since they both require the scattering event to deliver energy from the nucleus into
Beta decays in investigations and searches for rare effects
Current status of experimental investigations of rare single β decays (48Ca, 50V, 96Zr, 113Cd, 113mCd, 115In, 123Te, 180mTa, 222Rn) is reviewed. Nuclei which decay through single β decay very often
The curious case of tantalum 180
We discuss the physics of the rarest natural isotope 180Ta that has a lifetime of its isomeric state (77 keV) more than 1016 years due to the very large difference of quantum numbers with respect to

Survival of Nature's Rarest Isotope Ta-180 under Stellar Conditions
The nucleosynthesis of nature's rarest isotope {sup 180}Ta depends sensitively on the temperature of the astrophysical environment because of depopulation of the long-living isomeric state via
Underground search for the decay of Ta-180(m)
Tantalum-180m is a very rare primordial isotope and is not in its nuclear ground state. The radioactivity of Ta180m has not yet been observed. Previous attempts to measure the half-life of Ta180m
NATURAL RADIOACTIVITY OF V$sup 50$ AND Ta$sup 18$$sup 0$
The methods of proportional counter and scintillation spectroscopy have been used to examine thc possible radioactivity of the naturally occurring nuclides V/sup 50/ and Ta/sup 180/. Some positive
Search for the decay of 180Tam.
A sample of Ta/sub 2/O/sub 5/ containing 151 mg of Ta enriched to 5.47% in /sup 180/Ta/sup m/ was counted in a well-type high-purity Ge detector. This was enclosed in a large NaI(Tl) detector

Half-life ofTa180
A search has been made for ..gamma.. rays emitted following the electron-capture and/or ..beta../sup -/ decay of /sup 180/Ta. No excess of counts above background was observed in the vicinity of any
BAT – The Bayesian Analysis Toolkit
The Bayesian Analysis Toolkit, BAT, is a tool developed to evaluate the posterior probability distribution for models and their parameters that is centered around Bayes' Theorem and is realized with the use of Markov Chain Monte Carlo giving access to the full posterior probabilities.
