Limited optic nerve crush is a model of diffuse mechanical axon injury, the most prevalent cause of secondary neurodegeneration after closed head neurotrauma. In this report, a protocol is presented which allows for the rapid screening of differential gene expression in the inner retina, as well as the optic nerve, in response to partial nerve crush.
