Endoscopic sclerotherapy is a well-accepted technique for the treatment of variceal bleeding. It is carried out by injecting a sclerosant into or around a varix. Sclerosants are oily or aqueous chemicals which produce sclerosis, depending on their necroinflammatory and thrombotic properties.
