Science citation index and chemistry

  title={Science citation index and chemistry},
  author={T. W. Dewitt and R. S. Nicholson and M. K. Wilson},
Citation data have been collected for a large number of chemists at American universities. The principal objectives are to examine the use of citations as a tool in the study of sociology of chemical research and to determine the feasibility and accurancy of using automatically generated data. Past results in each of these areas, as well as a projection of future uses of citation data, are presented. First, a pilot study is described and some tentative conclusions discussed. The method used…
The “meaning” of citation in the context of a scientifically peripheral country
The findings presented confirm the view that in this context, citation patterns are significantly influenced by factors “external” to the scientific realm and, thus, reflect neither simply the quality, influence nor even the impact of the research work referred to.
Selecting manuscripts for a high-impact journal through peer review: A citation analysis of communications that were accepted by Angewandte Chemie International Edition, or rejected but published elsewhere
This document describes a chronology of events leading to and after the publication of Chemical Abstracts, and describes the main scientific models used to develop and evaluate these models.
Supplement to a “Bibliography of bibliometrics and citation indexing & analysis” (Trita-lib-2013)
The references listed below constitute a supplement and an update of "A Bibliography of Bibliometrics and Citation Indexing & Analysis", which was published in December 1980 in the report series
On the use of the h-index in evaluating chemical research
This work states that the h index bibliometric indicator plays an increasingly important role in evaluating contemporary scientific research, including chemistry, and expanded and improved use of this indicator in a useful and wise manner is suggested.
State and Analysis of Scientific Journals in the Field of “Economic Sciences” for the Period 1995-2014
Abstract SCI-E and SSCI are one of the main citation databases (CDB) in the world in the field of natural and applied (SCI-E) and social (SSCI) scientific disciplines. In 2014, within the SCIE all
Does the Committee Peer Review Select the Best Applicants for Funding? An Investigation of the Selection Process for Two European Molecular Biology Organization Programmes
The results show a statistically significant association between selection decisions and the applicants' scientific achievements, if quantity and impact of research publications are used as a criterion for scientific achievement.
Research Program Peer Review: Purposes, Principles, Practices, Protocols
Abstract : The purposes, principles, practices, and protocols of research program peer review are described. While the principles are fundamentally generic, and apply to peer review across the full
How accurately does Thomas Kuhn’s model of paradigm change describe the transition from the static view of the universe to the big bang theory in cosmology?
Taking as a case study the transition from the static view of the universe to the Big Bang theory in cosmology, Thomas Kuhn’s theoretical approach is appraised by conducting a historical reconstruction and a citation analysis.
Citations to chemical resources in scholarly articles: CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics and The Merck Index
A study was undertaken to examine the usage and impact of traditional ready-reference print resources through citation in scholarly articles, and the distribution of article citations to these chemical resources was analyzed by document type, research field, country, affiliation, and journal.
