We report here the presence of a membrane-associated receptor which mediates endocytic uptake of malondialdehyde-modified high density lipoprotein (MDA-HDL) on sinusoidal liver cells. Binding of [125I]MDA-HDL to the cells was followed by internalization and degradation in lysosomes. The binding and lysosomal degradation of [125I]MDA-HDL were effectively inhibited by unlabeled MDA-HDL and acetyl-HDL.
