Abstract Disk scale length rd and central surface brightness μ0 for a sample of 29955 bright disk galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey have been analyzed. Cross correlation of the SDSS sample with the LEDA catalogue allowed us to investigate the variation of the scale lengths for different types of disk/spiral galaxies and present distributions and typical trends of scale lengths all the SDSS bands with linear relations that indicate the relation that connect scale lengths in one passband… Expand

We have used Virtual Observatory technology to analyze the disk scale length rd and central surface brightness μ0 for a sample of 29,955 bright disk galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We useExpand
Scalelength of disc galaxies
We have derived disc scalelengths for 30 374 non-interacting disc galaxies in all five Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) bands. Virtual Observatory methods and tools were used to define, retrieve andExpand
A morphological type dependence in the μ0–log h plane of spiral galaxy disks
We present observational evidence for a galaxy "type" dependence to the location of a spiral galaxy's disk parameters in the μ0-log h plane. With a sample of approximately 40 low surface brightnessExpand
On the origin of exponential galaxy discs
One of the most important unresolved issues for galaxy formation theory is to understand the origin of exponential galaxy discs. We use a disc galaxy evolution model to investigate whether galaxiesExpand
Visibility of galaxies
IT is well known that our counts of galaxies could be seriously biased by selection effects, largely determined by the brightness of the night sky. To illustrate this, suppose the Earth were situatedExpand
Hyperleda. I. Identification and designation of galaxies
We present the new catalog of principal galaxies (PGC2003). It constitutes the framework of the HYPERLEDA database that supersedes the LEDA one, with more data and more capabilities. The catalog isExpand
The Sixth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
This paper describes the Sixth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. With this data release, the imaging of the northern Galactic cap is now complete. The survey contains images andExpand
The Sloan Digital Sky Survey: Technical summary
The Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) will provide the data to support detailed investigations of the distribution of luminous and nonluminous matter in the universe: a photometrically andExpand
CCD surface photometry of field galaxies. II: Bulge/disk decompositions
Major- and minor-axis profiles given in Paper I for 105 galaxies of all morphological types are decomposed into bulge and disk components. In addition, three model-independent parameters whichExpand
