Organ and tissue loss or failure resulting from an injury or other type of damage is a major human health problem. Tissue or organ transplantation is a standard therapy to treat these patients, but this is severely limited by donor shortage. Other available therapies including surgical reconstruction, drug therapy, synthetic prostheses, and medical devices are not limited by supply, but they do have other problems.
