}The present study aimed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the induction of cytotoxic effects by sasanquasaponin (SQS) in HepG2 cells. Following SQS treatment, time- and dose-dependent increases in the apoptotic rate were observed. The induction of cell death by SQS mainly occurs via programmed cell death, as indicated by Annexin V-fluorescein isothiocyanate and propidium iodide staining, where up to 30% apoptotic cells were detected following 12 h SQS treatment. Hepatitis C Virus Nonstructural 5A Protein (HCV-NS5A) Inhibits Hepatocyte Apoptosis through the NF-κb/miR-503/bcl-2 Pathway
- BiologyMolecules and cells
- 2017
A possible molecular mechanism that may contribute to HCV treatment is suggested, in which NS5A inhibits NF-κB activation to decrease miR-503 expression and increase bcl-2 expression, which leads to a decrease in hepatocellular apoptosis.
Shensongyangxin protects cardiomyocytes against LPS-induced injury through the NFκB pathway
- Biology
- 2016
Results indicate that the activation of NFκB may be responsible for LPS-induced cardiac injury and SSYX conferred a protecting effect on cardiomyocytes exposed to LPS possibly by inhibiting theNFκB pathway.
Investigation of the Effects of Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) and Perfluorooctane Sulfonate (PFOS) on Apoptosis and Cell Cycle in a Zebrafish (Danio rerio) Liver Cell Line
- BiologyInternational journal of environmental research and public health
- 2015
Both PFOA and PFOS inhibited the growth of zebrafish liver cells, and the inhibition rate of PFOS was higher than that of PFO a, indicating that P FOA-IC80 and PF OS-IC50 enhanced apoptosis in ZFL cells.
Multidirectional effects of triterpene saponins on cancer cells - mini-review of in vitro studies.

The inhibition of cancer cell proliferation, the induction of apoptosis and attenuation of cell invasiveness is observed in the presence of low saponin concentrations, which illustrates the relationships between the action of saponins, and the momentary genomic/proteomic status of cancer cells.

Xanthorrhizol exerts antiproliferative effects on HepG2 cells by inducing apoptosis via the mitochondrial pathway, resulting in a shift in the Bax to Bcl-2 ratio thus favouring apoptosis.
