Sarcoptic mange affects the common wombat (Vombatus ursinus) throughout its range. Prevalence of the disease is generally low, with less than 5% of wombats in a population affected. However, epizootics occur sporadically. Sarcoptic mange is less prevalent in southern hairy-nosed wombats (Lasiorhinus latifrons) but may be widespread. Sarcoptic mange has not been reported in the sole remaining population of northern hairy-nosed wombats (Lasiorhinus krefftii) at Epping Forest, Queensland. Whilst… CONTINUE READING
