ZusammenfassungSandmücken (Diptera: Psychodidae: Phlebotominae) sind in Europa typische mediterrane Faunenelemente von geringer Expansivität, die in über 20 Spezies im Mittelmeerraum weit verbreitet sind. Einzelne Arten dringen nordwärts in extramediterrane Gebiete (Westeuropa, Osteuropa) vor, in Mitteleuropa nördlich der Alpen wurde das Vorkommen von Sandmücken jedoch bis vor kurzer Zeit ausgeschlossen.
