General-purpose processors have utilized complex and energy inefficient techniques to accelerate performance. In embedded DSP designs, power constraints have precluded general-purpose microarchitectural techniques. Rather than minimize average execution time, embedded DSP processors require the worst-case execution time to be minimized.
