RATIONALE Droplet-based liquid extraction approaches for spatially resolved surface sampling coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (HPLC/MS) provide the ability to deal with complex sample matrices and to identify isomeric compounds not distinguishable by MS methods alone.
