Fluorouracil content was studied in air samples from a hospital pharmacy work area where a vertical laminar-airflow biological safety cabinet (BSC) vented into the work area was used for the preparation of antineoplastic drugs. The BSC was run 24 hours per day and used approximately 6 hours per day. During one 56-hour period and one 95-hour period, a portable pump delivering room air at 2 L/min was positioned 12 inches outside the BSC. Fluorouracil content in extracts from 0.5-micron Teflon…
Monitoring of occupational exposure to antineoplastic agents
TLDR
It is shown that the methods for measurement of CP, 5FU and MTX in the preparation room are applicable for the control of occupational exposure to these drugs.
Detection of contamination with antineoplastic agents in a hospital pharmacy department
TLDR
It is shown that the methods for measurement of cyclophosphamide, fluorouracil and methotrexate in the preparation room are applicable for the control of occupational exposure to these drugs.
Occupational exposure to antineoplastic agents at several departments in a hospital
TLDR
The urinary CP and IF determination method seems to be sensitive and suitable for monitoring the exposure to and measuring the uptake of these toxic compounds by pharmacy technicians and nurses during occupational activities.
Monitoring exposure of hospital personnel handling cytostatic drugs and contaminated materials
TLDR
Assessing occupational exposure to cytostatic drugs with strain TA 102 requires additional studies to determine environmental mutagens which can be detected by this strain.
Monitorização de resíduos de fluoruracila em ambiente de manipulação de fármacos citotóxicos
TLDR
Using High Performance Liquid Chromatography, this study suggests an analytical method for monitoring cytotoxic drugs and evaluates the contamination with fluorouracil of the drug handling environment of Hospital de Clinicas de Porto Alegre, Brazil, finding the method used was adequate to identify the presence of fluorouredacil.
Environmental contamination and assessment of exposure to antineoplastic agents by determination of cyclophosphamide in urine of exposed pharmacy technicians: is skin absorption an important exposure route?
TLDR
The results strongly suggest that inhalation is of minor importance for internal exposure, compared with other, presumably dermal, routes.
A new monitoring method using solid sorbent media for evaluation of airborne cyclophosphamide and other antineoplastic agents.
TLDR
Evaluation of the existing filter method for monitoring antineoplastics in air determined that the filter method was minimally effective for some antineoplastic agents, and that an alternate method of monitoring should be sought.
Development of an HPLC method for simultaneous analysis of five antineoplastic agents.
TLDR
The HPLC analytical method developed is able to detect all five agents of interest, and at minimum detectable concentrations of 0.5-microgram/mL for each of the five agents.
