Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has evolved as an important diagnostic tool in medicine. However, patients with implanted cardiac pacemakers are currently restricted from MRI due to safety reasons. Previous in vitro and in vivo studies showed that strong electromagnetic fields in the MRI environment may result in asynchronous pacing, inhibit a demand pacemaker, induce currents in the pacemaker system and pace the heart, cause thermal myocardial injury or other potential hazardous effects… CONTINUE READING
