Summary Using the technique of carbon isotopic ratio determinations, 20 selected species of Euphorbia (s. lat.) have been investigated to determine their metabolic status. Previous work is reviewed, and as found by previous investigators, enriched 13C values - indicating Crassulacean acid metabolism or C4 photosynthesis - have been detected only in subgenera Euphorbia and Chamaesyce, respectively.
