THREE NEW TIE-BACK SYSTEMS WERE DEVELOPED DURING THE LAST FEW YEARS IN SWEDEN. THEY CONSIST IN PRINCIPLE OF STEEL RODS OR CABLES WHICH ARE GROUTED IN ROCK OR SOIL. THE EARTH PRESSURES ACTING ON ANCHORED SHEET PILE WALLS VARY CONSIDERABLY. THE HIGHEST VALUES ARE GENERALLY OBTAINED WHEN THE SOIL BEHIND THE SHEET PILE WALLS FREEZES AND EXPANDS.
