'I'he taxonomic list and the structure of benthic diatom assemblages occurring in fine sediments (silt and sand) from the mangrove forest of the Balandra lagoon in Baja California Sur, Mkxico was determined based on seasonal samplings for one ycar. Assemblage structure was analyzed using several ecological indices for estimating diversity (H'), dominance (REDI), equitability, and similarity. A total of 230 diatom taxa were identified and include 109 new records for the Raja California peninsula… Expand
Structure of Diatom Assemblages Living on Prop Roots of the Red Mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) from the West Coast of Baja California Sur, México1
TLDR
The principal component analysis and similarity measurements indicated that the November and April assemblages could be discriminated on the basis of taxa distribution, and diversity estimates were among the highest ever measured for benthic diatoms. Expand
Diversity of benthic diatoms in the Guerrero Negro Lagoon (El Vizcaíno Biosfere Reserve), Baja California Peninsula, Mexico
High species diversity renders benthic diatoms that are useful in assessing environmental impact, as well as an adequate reference for measuring biodiversity in protected areas. PreliminaryExpand
NEW RECORDS OF MARINE BENTHIC DIATOM SPECIES FOR THE NORTH-WESTERN MEXICAN REGION
TLDR
The taxonomic analysis of epipelic benthic diatoms from the mangrove area El Conchalito in Baja California Sur yielded 59 new records for the NW Mexican region and several other taxa are included in the newly formed Diatom Collection. Expand
BIODIVERSITY OF BENTHIC DIATOM AND PRIMARY PRODUCTIVITY OF BENTHIC MICRO-FLORA IN MANGROVE FORESTS ON CENTRAL JAVA
TLDR
The assemblage of benthic diatom community was more similar in Rembang and Pemalang compared to that in Demak, however the ii biodiversity index tended to be higher in the lower mangrove density; however, this was more depended on location. Expand
Diatoms from the most hypersaline lagoon in Brazil: Vermelha lagoon
Abstract Scarce knowledge is available concerning the diatom ecology of hypersaline environments and their potential to use as bioindicators. The aim of this study was to characterize and quantifyExpand
Diatoms and Dinoflagellates of an Estuarine Creek in Lagos.
TLDR
Almost all the diatoms and dinoflagellates recorded for this investigation have been reported by earlier workers for the Lagos lagoon, associated tidal creeks and offshore Lagos. Expand
New records and combinations of Lyrella (Bacillariophyceae: Lyrellales) from a protected coastal lagoon of the northwestern Mexican Pacific
TLDR
Twenty-one species and subspecific taxa of diatoms of the genus Lyrella found in subtidal sediments of Laguna Guerrero Negro (LGN), BCS-BC (Mexico) are recorded within a floristic list of 232 identified epipelic diatom taxa. Expand
Bioindicators in marine waters: Benthic diatoms as a tool to assess water quality from eutrophic to oligotrophic coastal ecosystems
Abstract Marine waters in general and coastal areas in particular suffer globally from stressing events. These events can be largely attributed to higher levels of human-induced eutrophication,Expand
A checklist of phytoplankton species of Ologe lagoon, Lagos south- western Nigeria
TLDR
The phytoplankton diversity of the Ologe lagoon, Lagos was investigated from February, 2002 to January, 2004 and 10 new species are the first reports for Lagos lagoon complex, south-western Nigeria. Expand
Transport of benthic diatoms across the continental shelf off southern Baja California Peninsula Transporte de diatomeas bentónicas sobre la plataforma continental en frente de la parte sur de la Península de Baja California
Material collected with a time-series sediment trap moored in San Lazaro Basin, near the NE Pacific upwelling zone off Bahia Magdalena, Baja California Sur (Mexico), from August to November 1996 andExpand

Composition And Structure Of Benthic Diatom Associations In Punta Banda Estuary In Autumn 1983 And 1986
The association structure of benthic diatoms in the low marsh sediments of Punta Banda Estuary was analyzed at five stations during autumn 1983 and 1986. A total of 253 taxa were determined being theExpand
AN INVESTIGATION OF DISTRIBUTIONAL PATTERNS IN THE DIATOM FLORA OF NETARTS BAY, OREGON, BY CORRESPONDENCE ANALYSIS 1
TLDR
A comparison of the flora in Netarts Bay with floras in other Oregon estuaries indicates that epiphytic, epilithic, and sediment‐associated diatom assemblages do not exhibit conspicuous latitudinal changes along the coast of Oregon, and that many of the same taxa can be expected to occur in samples from comparable habitats in estuary throughout the temperate regions of the world. Primary production of benthic microalgae in an intertidal sand flat of the Ria de Arosa, NW Spain
TLDR
Primary production of benthic microalgae was studied in an intertidal sand flat in the Ria de Arosa (NW Spain), where a n intensive bivalve aquaculture takes place, and shows no clear seasonal peaks, which suggests that resuspended bentho-microalgae can be a major food source for bivalves. Expand
Species Composition of Benthic Diatoms and Distribution of Chlorophyll a on an Intertidal Flat in the Dutch Wadden Sea
TLDR
Heavy rain and strong wave action during storms suddenly reduced the chlorophyll a content considerably and it seems that high biomass values are formed almost exclusively by single species which are indifferent in their spatial distribution. Expand
DIATOM COMMUNITY STRUCTURE: TAXONOMIC AND STATISTICAL ANALYSES OF A MISSISSIPPI SALT MARSH 1
TLDR
A multiple regression analysis revealed that structural differences amongst edaphic diatom communities were related to differences in elevation, far red light energy, ammonia nitrogen, soil moisture, and tentatively, height of the spermatophyte canopy. Expand
Seasonal Changes in Epipelic Diatoms Along an Intertidal Shore, Berrow Flats, Somerset
TLDR
It is shown that different combinations of environmental variables influence diatom assemblage structure seasonally, and steep gradients in pH, levels of organic matter, and hypersaline conditions separated sites and assemblages into more discrete groups when compared to the more even spread of points in the other seasons. Expand
BENTHIC DIATOMS FROM THE NORTH CAROLINA CONTINENTAL SHELF: INNER AND MID SHELF 1
TLDR
Sediment samples collected by SCUBA divers at two times and three sites on inner and middle continental shelf of North Carolina showed a well‐developed benthic diatom flora, comparable to sediment chlorophyll a values reported in previous studies. Expand
PRIMARY PRODUCTION OF EDAPHIC ALGAL COMMUNITIES IN A MISSISSIPPI SALT MARSH 1
TLDR
Primary production rates of edaphic algae associated with the sediments beneath four monospecific canopies of vascular plants were determined over an annual cycle in a Mississippi salt marsh, and chlorophyll a concentrations, annual algal production rates, and EAP / VPP values were comparable to those determined in Texas, Delaware, and Massachusetts salt marshes but lower than those reported for Georgia and particularly California marshes. Expand

Abstract The abundance and distribution of microphytobenthos from data obtained between 1982 and 1984 in the bays of Alfacs and Fangar is examined. Spatial heterogeneity of the chlorophyll a at theExpand
Biomass and production of benthic microalgal communities in estuarine habitats
