A B S T R A C T Structure of the embryo sac and development of the proembryo of Acer saccharinum L. are described from paraffin sections. The embryo sac is monosporic and identical to the 8-nucleate Polygonum type in all respects. Cell, nuclear, and nucleolar sizes are constant within a narrow range and sharply distinctive for all components of the mature sac. Polar nuclei fuse before double fertilization.
