SQ Minus EQ can Predict Programming Aptitude
@inproceedings{Wray2007SQME, title={SQ Minus EQ can Predict Programming Aptitude}, author={Stuart Wray}, booktitle={PPIG}, year={2007} }
Students from an introductory programming class were given several tests in an attempt to establish whether any of their test scores correlated well with their measured programming ability. It was discovered that, when used in combination, the Autism Research Centre’s SQ [1] and EQ [2] tests showed a high correlation (r = .67) with a test for programming ability. Individually, SQ and EQ show moderate correlation (r = .44 and r = -.45 respectively) with this programming test. In contrast, for…

Brain Type as a Programming Aptitude Predictor
- PsychologyPPIG
- 2016
There is some evidence that choice of degree subject may be related to brain type, but no evidence is found of a correlation between a male brain type (Type S or Extreme Type S) and programming aptitude.

It is reported that after six experiments, involving more than 500 students at six institutions in three countries, the predictive effect of the test has failed to live up to that early promise.
Computer Programming Aptitude Test as a Tool for Reducing Student Attrition

The study provides the review of the situation with programming aptitude tests in the world and an action plan is proposed, which is based on the exploration of students and evaluation of activities already conducted at the Faculty of Computing of the University of Latvia to reduce dropout.
Meta-analysis of the effect of consistency on success in early learning of programming
- PsychologyPPIG
- 2009
It is shown that consistency does have a strong effect on success in early learning to program but background programming experience, on the other hand, has little or no effect.

This study analyses the relationship between cognitive styles, inside the theoretical framework of the empathizing–systemizing (E–S) theory, and performance, and considers the role of sex, using a cluster analysis.
A cognitive study of learning to program in introductory programming courses
- Psychology
- 2009
This study shows that students in the consistent subgroup have the ability to build a mental model, something that follows rules like a mechanical construct, when confronted with a simple program, and confirms that consistency is not simply provided by prior programming background.
PREDICTORS OF NOVICES PROGRAMMERS' PERFORMANCE
- Computer Science
- 2014
An overview of good and bad predictors of success in programming and factors that, so far, have not shown the predictions’ strength or their impact on the performance of programming hasn’t been sufficiently explored is given.
The role of the cognitive style in improving the learning to program
- EducationPPIG
- 2017
This study analysis of the relationship between cognitive styles, inside the theoretical framework of the empathizing–systemizing (E–S) theory, and performance in a sample of 46 students attending a course of programming in a Applied Mathematics bachelor finds that women showed a higher level of empathy than men.
