Abstract The electron spin polarization at a ferromagnetic Ni(110)-surface is determined through electron capture by small angle reflected deuterons. It is found that the electron spin polarization depends on the angle of incidence α. For α = 0.2° we obtain P = -96 ± 3%, for α = 0.5°, P = +5 ± 3%, and for α = 0.8°, P = +9 ±3% (the + sign indicates predominance of majority spin electrons)
