Hematopoiesis is orchestrated by interactions between hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs) and stromal cells within bone marrow (BM) niches. Side population (SP) functionality is a major characteristic of HSPCs related to quiescence and resistance to drugs and environmental stresses.
