Many of the pellagra patients admitted to the Pellagra Hospital in 1917 gave a history of using diets which consisted mainly of cereals, fat pork, molasses and greens, with little, if any, animal protein. On such a type of diet, Goldberger and Wheeler 1 experimentally produced pellagra in the human subject at the Rankin Farm, Mississippi State Penitentiary.
