A method for producing a black pigment including the step of contacting a polymer (1) containing 5 to 500 mmol of hydroxyl groups, and optionally 30 to 300 mmol of carboxyl groups per 100 g of the polymer with a carbon material (2) at a temperature of 50 to 250 DEG C.
