Human papilloma viruses (HPVs) are small double-stranded DNA viruses that infect mucosal and cutaneous epithelium and induce cervical cancer. It has been shown that interferon (IFN)gamma suppresses proliferation of HPV-infected cells by suppressing expression of HPV E7.
