The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) specification [1] allows for the protection of network management operations by a variety of security protocols. The SNMP administrative model described in [2] provides a framework for securing SNMP network management. In the context of that framework, this memo defines protocols to support the following three security services:
Definitions of Managed Objects for Administration of SNMP Parties
TLDR
This memo defines a portion of the Management Information Base for use with network management protocols in TCP/IP-based internets and describes a representation of the SNMP parties defined in [8] as objects defined according to the Internet Standard SMI.
SNMP Administrative Model
TLDR
This model provides a unified conceptual basis for administering SNMP protocol entities to support and is presented as an elaboration of the SNMP administrative model set forth in [1].
A new framework for secure network management
  • Farid G. Hatefi, F. Golshani
  • Computer Science
Proceedings of Sixth International Conference on Computer Communications and Networks
  • 1997
TLDR
A new protocol, SNMS (secure network management system) with four primary goals, which uses encryption to establish a secure channel between a network manager and a network agent and enables a manager to remotely add manageable objects to an agent.
Remote Authentication Dial In User Service (RADIUS)
This document describes a protocol for carrying authentication, authorization, and configuration information between a Network Access Server which desires to authenticate its links and a shared
Internet security standards: past, present, and future
TLDR
Thisicle traces the evolution of security standards in the Internet and previews work now underway, well before security became a common concern for many Internet users, before the term “information superhighway” became a buzzword, and before the advent of the Internet standards process.
Management of switched multimegabit data service (SMDS) using the simple network management protocol (SNMP)
  • J. Case
  • Computer Science, Business
[1991] Proceedings 16th Conference on Local Computer Networks
  • 1991
TLDR
The challenges associated with using SNMP to manage SMDS are identified and discussed and the combination of SNMP and SMDS will lead to new opportunities for the SNMP management framework within telephony.
Implementation of a Security Policy in Distributed Safety Related I&C Systems
TLDR
This paper starts from a rather generic model of a distributed computerized safety system, identifies important information-storage, -flow and -processing, gives an example of how to set up a security policy, and discusses the implementation of this policy including service and maintenance issues.
Desenvolvimento de um Agente de Monitoração para Redes TCP/IP
TLDR
This work presents a monitoring agent built over a SNMP platform which allows the development of management applications that use the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) as the communication protocol.
Customer network management for B-ISDN/ATM services
  • R. Kositpaiboon, B. Smith
  • Business, Computer Science
Proceedings of ICC '93 - IEEE International Conference on Communications
  • 1993
TLDR
A broadband integrated services digital network/asynchronous transfer mode (B-ISDN/ATM) management architecture that will support a potential customer network management (CNM) service and its evolution is presented.
