This paper discusses Yasumasa Morimura’s photographic self-portraits, in order to examine how the artist’s gendered and cultural contexts are dialectically used to construct his Other and to identify his own self. Yasumasa Morimura, a Japanese artist, photographs himself as Hollywood actresses, or inserts his image into famous western paintings using computer technologies.
