There is no doubt about the reality of the secular increase in cognitive test scores. However, there is disagreement about a key issue: does the observed increase reflect a genuine upward trend in intelligence? Evidence from the Raven test is clear, although there are some doubts about its adequacy as a fine-grained measure of fluid intelligence. Evidence from the so-called ‘method of correlated vectors’ is much less clear. When a crystallized battery is considered, the results leave little…
Pervasiveness of the IQ Rise: A Cross-Temporal Meta-Analysis
TLDR
This study clearly demonstrates that crystallized IQ gains are substantial and of comparable strength as Flynn effects typically observed for measures of fluid intelligence in Central Europe.
Human IQ and Increasing Intelligence
The only real evidence we have that childhood intelligence is increasing is that scores on tests of intelligence are increasing. But what if the tests are wrong? What if tests are a poor measure of
Evolution and Increasing Intelligence
TLDR
In the course of evaluating the main hypothesis of human brain evolution, several subsidiary hypotheses are evaluated, each of which relate to the human evolution.
One Century of Global IQ Gains

TLDR
Findings include that IQ gains vary according to domain, are stronger for adults than children, and have decreased in more recent decades, while factors associated with life history speed seem mainly responsible for the Flynn effect’s general trajectory.
Working memory training in healthy young adults: Support for the null from a randomized comparison to active and passive control groups
TLDR
The effect of a randomized six week online working memory intervention on untrained cognitive abilities in a community-recruited sample of healthy young adults, in relation to both a processing speed training active control condition, as well as a no-contact control condition is investigated.
Age and Flexible Thinking: An Experimental Demonstration of the Beneficial Effects of Increased Cognitively Stimulating Activity on Fluid Intelligence in Healthy Older Adults
  • L. Tranter, W. Koutstaal
  • Psychology
Neuropsychology, development, and cognition. Section B, Aging, neuropsychology and cognition
  • 2008
TLDR
Experimental participants showed greater pre- to post-CCF gain than did controls, with a similar gain on a spatial-perceptual task (WAIS-R Blocks), suggesting even brief periods of increased cognitive stimulation can improve older adults' problem solving and flexible thinking.

Abstract Most standard tests of intelligence and scholastic aptitude measure a general factor of cognitive ability that is common to all such tests – as well as to all complex tasks involving
Massive IQ gains in 14 nations: What IQ tests really measure.
Data from 14 nations reveal IQ gains ranging from 5 to 25 points in a single generation. Some of the largest gains occur on culturally reduced tests and tests of fluid intelligence. The Norwegian

Earlier, Rushton (Intelligence, 13, 1989, 43‐51) found the amount of inbreeding depression on WISCR subtests (a genetic eAect) correlates with the magnitude of the average Black‐White IQ diAerences

This study shows that every Stanford-Binet and Wechsler standardization sample from 1932 to 1978 established norms of a higher standard than its predecessor. The obvious interpretation of this
