We have investigated Haldane's conjecture for the S=2 antiferromagnetic quantum spin chain with nearest-neighbor exchange J. Using a density matrix renormalization group algorithm for chains up to L=350 spins, we find in the thermodynamic limit a finite gap of \ensuremath{\Delta}=0.085(5)J and a finite spin-spin correlation length \ensuremath{\xi}=49(1) lattice spacings. We have confirmed the gap value by a zero-temperature quantum Monte Carlo study. We show that the ground state has a hidden…
Numerical evidence of a spin-1/2 chain approaching a spin-1 chain
We study the one-dimensional Heisenberg spin-$1∕2$ alternating bond chain in which the nearest neighbor exchange couplings are ferromagnetic (FM) and antiferromagnetic (AF) alternatively. By using
A note on Haldane’s conjecture
According to Haldane's conjecture, there is a spin gap of the excitation spectrum in integer Heisenberg spin chains whereas half-integer spin chains have a gapless excitation spectrum. In an earlier
Spin gap in doped ladder systems
A proper theoretical description of doped antiferromagnets is until now an unresolved issue. In this work we study chain and ladder systems, and in particularly we focus on the physically most
Magnetization plateau of the S=2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain with anisotropies
We investigate the $S=2$ antiferromagnetic quantum spin chain with the exchange and single-ion anisotropies in a magnetic field, using the numerical exact diagonalization of finite-size clusters and
Exotic quantum magnetism and superfluidity in optical lattices
Author(s): Hung, Hsiang-Hsuan | Abstract: The progress of ultracold atoms renders numerous possibilities to investigate exotic magnetism and superfluidity, which are rarely observed in solid state
Ground-state phases in spin-crossover chains
Spin-crossover molecules having a low-spin ground state and a low-lying excited high-spin state are promising components for molecular electronics. We theoretically examine one-dimensional
