A strictly aerobic, Gram-negative, reddish-orange pigmented, non-motile and rod-shaped bacterium, designated AK17-053T was isolated from a marine crustacean (Squillidae) living on tidal flats on the coast of the Ariake Sea, Nagasaki, Japan. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that the novel isolate could be affiliated with the family Saprospiraceae of the phylum Bacteroidetes and that it showed highest sequence similarity (84%) with Lewinella marina MKG-38T. Strain SMR-CT and closely related strains of 'CAR bacillus' rodent-isolates formed a novel family-level clade in the phylum Bacteroidetes with high bootstrap support (98-100 %).

Temporal Changes of the Epiphytic Bacteria Community From the Marine Macroalga Ulva lactuca (Santa Marta, Colombian-Caribbean)

The results support the need for functional studies of the microbiota associated with Ulva lactuca, a common macroalga in the Colombian Caribbean Sea, and found high variability among epiphytic bacteria from U. lactuca and bacterial communities associated with macroalgae from Germany and Australia.

The influence of invasive jellyfish blooms on the aquatic microbiome in a coastal lagoon (Varano, SE Italy) detected by an Illumina-based deep sequencing strategy

This is the first time that a NGS platform has been used to screen the impact of jelly fish bioinvasions on the aquatic microbiome, providing a preliminary assessment of jellyfish-driven changes of the functional and structural microbial biodiversity.

Warming, but Not Acidification, Restructures Epibacterial Communities of the Baltic Macroalga Fucus vesiculosus With Seasonal Variability

It is demonstrated that the bacterial community composition varied in time and that relationships between operational taxonomic units (OTUs) within an OTU association network were mainly governed by the habitat.

New Degenerate Cytophaga-Flexibacter-Bacteroides-Specific 16S Ribosomal DNA-Targeted Oligonucleotide Probes Reveal High Bacterial Diversity in River Taff Epilithon

A new set of degenerate 16S rDNA probes was developed to enhance their detection, namely, CFB560,CFB562, and CFB376, and Probe design in this study illustrated that multiple degenerate positions can greatly increase target range without adversely effecting specificity or experimental performance.
