By exciting the rotational modes of vibrationally excited CHD3(v1 = 1, JK), the reactivity for the Cl + CHD3 → HCl + CD3 reaction is observed enhanced by as much as a factor of two relative to the rotationless reactant. To understand the mode specificity, the reaction dynamics was studied using both a reduced-dimensional quantum dynamical model and the conventional quasi-classical trajectory method, both of which reproduced qualitatively the measured enhancements. The mechanism of enhancement…

Vibrational and Rotational Mode Specificity in The Cl + H2O → HCl + OH Reaction: A Quantum Dynamical Study.
TLDR
The vibrational and rotational mode specificity of the Cl + H2O → HCl + OH reaction is studied on a recently constructed ab initio based global potential energy surface using an initial state selected Chebyshev real wave packet method and is consistent with the predictions of the recently proposed Sudden Vector Projection model.
Rotational Mode Specificity in Cl + CH4(v3=1,|jNl⟩): Role of Reactant's Vibrational Angular Momentum.
TLDR
While the initial rotational excitations exert a noticeable effect on total reactivity, they leave little imprint on the more detailed product-state and angular distributions, echoing the previous conclusion in the analogous Cl + CHD3 reaction.
Understanding rotational mode specificity in the O(3P)+CHD3→ OH+CD3 reaction by simple reactant alignment pictures
The mode specificity plays an important role in understanding the fundamental reaction dynamics. This work reports a theoretical study of the rotational mode specificity of the reactant CHD3(JK) in
Communication: Reactivity borrowing in the mode selective chemistry of H + CHD3 → H2 + CD3.
TLDR
These findings show that resonant energy transfer can significantly affect the mode-selective chemistry of CHD3 and result in counter-intuitive reactivity patterns.

Rotational Mode Specificity in the F– + CH3I(v = 0, JK) SN2 and Proton-Transfer Reactions
TLDR
Quasiclassical trajectory computations are performed for the F– + CH3I(v = 0, JK) → I– +CH3F (SN2) and HF + CH2I– (proton-transfer) reactions considering initial rotational states, finding that as the reactions become more direct, the rotational effects are diminishing.
Imaging the Effect of Reactant Rotations on the Dynamics of the Cl + CHD3(v1 = 1, |J,K⟩) Reaction.
TLDR
It was found that the initial J- and K-selections affect only the total reactivity, not the more detailed product-state and angular distributions-a surprising result that defies conventional wisdom.
Rotational effects on the dissociation dynamics of CHD3 on Pt(111).
TLDR
Using five-dimensional quantum dynamical and full-dimensional ab initio molecular dynamics calculations, it is shown that the CD3 umbrella axis of CHD3 must reorient before the molecule reaches the barrier for C-H cleavage to occur in reaction on Pt(111).
Rotational Mode Specificity in the F(-) + CH3Y [Y = F and Cl] SN2 Reactions.
TLDR
The tumbling rotation may counteract the attractive ion-dipole forces, and the spinning motion hinders the complex formation, thereby decreasing the reactivity.
Differential steric effects in Cl reactions with aligned CHD3(v1 = 1) by the R(0) and Q(1) transitions. I. Attacking the excited C-H bond.
TLDR
It is found that under the R(0) excitation, the polarization-dependent differential cross sections for the HCl(v = 0) + CD3(00) channel can largely be understood by invoking dual reaction mechanisms, and results under the Q(1)excitation are perplexing and bear no obvious correlation to the corresponding ones for the R-excitation, defying simple intuitive interpretation.

Vibrational Enhancement Factor of the Cl + CHD3(v1 = 1) Reaction: Rotational-Probe Effects.
TLDR
The vibrational enhancement factor in the Cl + CHD3(v1 = 1) reaction is revisited over the collisional energy range of 2-5.9 kcal mol(-1) and contrary to the previous results, CH stretching excitation becomes more efficacious than the same amount of translational energy in promoting the HCl(v) + CD3( v = 0) product pairs when all-|N, K⟩ states are probed.

Quantum dynamics study of the Cl + CH4 → HCl + CH3 reaction: reactive resonance, vibrational excitation reactivity, and rate constants.
TLDR
This work confirms not only the experimental speculation of the reactive resonance by observing a prominent resonance peak on the ground state reaction probability, but also the experimental and quasi-classical trajectory finding that at lower total scattering energy the translational energy drives the reactivity more than the vibrational energy for this late barrier reaction.
Mode specificity in the H + H2O → H2 + OH reaction: a full-dimensional quantum dynamics study.

CH Stretching Excitation in the Early Barrier F + CHD3 Reaction Inhibits CH Bond Cleavage
TLDR
An in-depth experimental study of the reactivity effects exerted by reactant C-H stretching excitation in a prototypical early-barrier reaction, F + CHD3 finds that the vibration hinders the overall reaction rate, inhibits scission of the excited bond itself, and influences the coproduct vibrational distribution despite being conserved in the CHD2 product.
Do Vibrational Excitations of CHD3 Preferentially Promote Reactivity Toward the Chlorine Atom?
TLDR
This work measured the relative efficiencies of vibration and translation in promoting the gas-phase reaction of CHD3 with the Cl atom to form HCl and CD3 and observed that C–H stretch excitation is no more effective than an equivalent amount of translational energy in raising the overall reaction efficiency.
