We study the kinematics and scaling relations of a sample of 43 giant spiral galaxies that have stellar masses exceeding $10^{11} \, {\rm M}_\odot$ and optical discs up to 80 kpc in radius. We use a hybrid 3D–1D approach to fit 3D kinematic models to long-slit observations of the H α-$\rm{[N\, \small {II}]}$ emission lines and we obtain robust rotation curves of these massive systems. We find that all galaxies in our sample seem to reach a flat part of the rotation curve within the outermost…

The Origin of the Relation Between Stellar Angular Momentum and Stellar Mass in Nearby Disk-dominated Galaxies

The IllustrisTNG simulations reproduce the observed scaling relation between the stellar specific angular momentum (sAM) j s and mass M s of central galaxies. We show that the local j s–M s relation

The Effect of Adiabatic Compression on Dark Matter Halos and the Radial Acceleration Relation

We use a semiempirical model to investigate the radial acceleration relation (RAR) in a cold dark matter (CDM) framework. Specifically, we build 80 model galaxies covering the same parameter space as

Glon sky survey is a data acquisition method of 21 cm neutral hydrogen spectrum. Recently, the author has conducted a series of studies on the data of the gLon sky survey. After transforming and

Stellar Mass-to-light Ratios: Composite Bulge+Disk Models and the Baryonic Tully–Fisher Relation

We present stellar population models to calculate the mass-to-light ratio (ϒ*) based on galaxies’ colors ranging from GALEX far-UV to Spitzer IRAC1 at 3.6 μm. We present a new composite bulge+disk ϒ*

A Break in Spiral Galaxy Scaling Relations at the Upper Limit of Galaxy Mass

Super spirals are the most massive star-forming disk galaxies in the universe. We measured rotation curves for 23 massive spirals with the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) and found a wide

Precision Scaling Relations for Disk Galaxies in the Local Universe

We build templates of rotation curves as a function of the I-band luminosity via the mass modeling (by the sum of a thin exponential disk and a cored halo profile) of suitably normalized, stacked

The Baryonic Tully-Fisher Relation of Galaxies with Extended Rotation Curves and the Stellar Mass of Rotating Galaxies

I investigate the baryonic Tully-Fisher relation for a sample of galaxies with extended 21 cm rotation curves spanning the range 20 km s-1 ≲ Vf ≤ 300 km s-1. A variety of scalings of the stellar

Angular Momentum and Galaxy Formation Revisited: Scaling Relations for Disks and Bulges

We show that the stellar specific angular momentum j⋆, mass M⋆, and bulge fraction of normal galaxies of all morphological types are consistent with a simple model based on a linear superposition of

This work presents high-precision measurements of the specific baryon angular momentum jb contained in stars, atomic gas, and molecular gas, out to ≳ 10 scale radii, in 16 nearby spiral galaxies of

The angular momentum of disc galaxies: implications for gas accretion, outflows, and dynamical friction

We combine constraints on the galaxy–dark matter connection with structural and dynamical scaling relations to investigate the angular momentum content of disc galaxies. For haloes with masses in the

Giant disc galaxies: where environment trumps mass in galaxy evolution

We identify some of the most HI massive and fastest rotating disk galaxies in the local universe with the aim of probing the processes that drive the formation of these extreme disk galaxies. By

The angular momentum-mass relation: a fundamental law from dwarf irregulars to massive spirals

In a $\Lambda$CDM Universe, the specific stellar angular momentum ($j_\ast$) and stellar mass ($M_\ast$) of a galaxy are correlated as a consequence of the scaling existing for dark matter haloes

The Universal Rotation Curve of Spiral Galaxies: I. the Dark Matter Connection

We use a homogeneous sample of about 1100 optical and radio rotation curves (RCs) and relative surface photometry to investigate the main mass structure properties of spirals, over a range of 6

The Formation of Disk Galaxies

We present a scenario for the formation of disks that explains not only the properties of normal galaxies but also the properties of the population of low surface brightness galaxies (LSBs) as well.
