The activity of neurons in the rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM) is critical for the generation of vasomotor sympathetic tone. Multiple pre-sympathetic pathways converge on spinally projecting RVLM neurons, but the origin and circumstances in which such inputs are active are poorly understood.
