BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARgamma) is decreased in the lungs of patients with pulmonary hypertension, and PPARgamma ligands have been associated with the release of vasoactive substances from vascular endothelial cells and prevention of vascular remodelling.
