In an in vivo study, spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) were treated with an angiotensin II (Ang II) type 1 receptor antagonist of candesartan or hydralazine. Untreated SHR progressively developed severe hypertension, and treatment with candesartan or hydralazine decreased blood pressure.
