In rabbits with experimental hypothyroidism the ability of the liver mitochondria to carry out oxidative phosphorylation was undisturbed after intravenous injection of diphtheria toxin. In rabbits with experimental hyperthyroidism, the sensitivity of the liver mitochondria to the uncoupling action of diphtheria toxin was sharply increased.
