Endotoxic shock is associated with a coagulopathy, organ failure, and death. Tissue factor (TF) expression by monocytes exposed to bacterial endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide [LPS]) may mediate the coagulopathy and contribute to the high mortality of this disease.
