Virus infection was conventionally considered to cause myocarditis, which resulted in development of dilated cardiomyopathy. Recent studies suggest that hepatitis C virus (HCV) is involved in the development of dilated cardiomyopathy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy in addition to myocarditis.
