Adenosine is recognised as an important regulator of myocardial function and coronary vascular tone in the ischaemic myocardium. It is produced by the enzymatic dephosphorylation of 5'-AMP by 5'-nucleotidase and the hydrolysis of SAH by SAH-hydrolase. 5'-Nucleotidase is thought to contribute to adenosine production aside from the accumulation of 5'-AMP in the ischaemic myocardium, while the hydrolysis of SAH plays a major role in adenosine production in the normoxic myocardium. 5'-Nucleotidase… CONTINUE READING
