Acylamino acid-releasing enzyme/oxidized protein hydrolase (AARE/OPH) has been biochemically demonstrated to be a bifunctional protease that has exopeptidase activity against Nα-acylated peptides and endopeptidase activity against oxidized and glycated proteins; however, its physiological role remains unknown.
