Role of Non-coding RNAs in chemotherapeutic treatments
@inproceedings{Vannini2015RoleON, title={Role of Non-coding RNAs in chemotherapeutic treatments}, author={Ivan Vannini}, year={2015} }
The transcribed ultraconserved regions (T-UCRs) are a group of long non-coding RNAs involved in human carcinogenesis. The factors regulating the expression of T-UCRs and their mechanism of action in human cancers are unknown. In this work it was shown that high expression of uc.339 associates with lower survival in 204 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Moreover, it was shown that uc.339 found up-regulated in archival NSCLC samples, acts as a decoy RNA for miR-339-3p, -663-3p and -95…

For the first time, a T-UCR expression landscape in neuroblastoma is defined and widespread T- UCR involvement in diverse cellular processes that are deregulated in the process of tumourigenesis is suggested.

The finding that, in addition to microRNAs, another class of ncRNAs (T-UCRs) undergoes DNA methylation-associated inactivation in transformed cells supports a model in which epigenetic and genetic alterations in coding and non-coding sequences cooperate in human tumorigenesis.
miRNA-95 mediates radioresistance in tumors by targeting the sphingolipid phosphatase SGPP1.
- BiologyCancer research
- 2013
Next-generation sequencing and combined in silico prediction and microarray expression analyses identify and validated the sphingolipid phosphatase SGPP1, an antagonist of sphingosine-1-phosphate signaling, as a target of miR-95 that promotes radiation resistance.

- BiologyProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
- 2007
The enforced expression of miR-29s in lung cancer cell lines restores normal patterns of DNA methylation, induces reexpression of methylation-silenced tumor suppressor genes, and inhibits tumorigenicity in vitro and in vivo.

Findings expand the potential roles of ucRNA in HCC, support the existence of selective mechanisms for lncRNA export from cells, and implicate extracellular vesicle-mediated transfer of lnc RNA as a mechanism by which tumor cells can modulate their local cellular environment.
