Myocardial ischemia induces 5-lipoxygenase (LOX) translocation and leukotriene production in the heart. Leukotrienes increase inflammatory responses and could thereby aggravate ischemic injury. However, the role of lipoxygenase and leukotrienes in cardiac ischemia/reperfusion damage has not been well defined.
