Rocky Cometary Particulates: Their Elemental, Isotopic and Mineralogical Ingredients
@article{Jessberger1999RockyCP, title={Rocky Cometary Particulates: Their Elemental, Isotopic and Mineralogical Ingredients}, author={Elmar K. Jessberger}, journal={Space Science Reviews}, year={1999}, volume={90}, pages={91-97} }
The determination of the chemical composition of solid cometary dust particles was one of the prime objectives of the three missions to Comet Halley in 1986. The dust analysis was performed by time-of-flight mass-spectrometry. Within the experimental uncertainty the mean abundances of the rock-forming elements in cometary dust particles are comparable to their abundances in CI-chondrites and in the solar photosphere, i.e. they are cosmic. H, C, and N, on the other hand, in cometary dust are…

Cometary nuclei consist of ices intermixed with dust grains and are thought to be the least modified solar system bodies remaining from the time of planetary formation. Flyby missions to Comet…
Cometary dust: the diversity of primitive refractory grains

The properties of refractory materials imply there were disc processes that resulted in different comets having particular selections of primitive materials, which has implications for the diversity of materials in the protoplanetary disc present at the time and in the region where the comets formed.
Mid-infrared spectra of cometary dust: the evasion of its silicate mineralogy
- Geology, Physics
