Pressure vessels used in the petrochemical industry need to be regularly inspected. Currently this is done manually by people working insid e the vessels, which is a very time consuming operation in a potentially hazardeous wo rk environment. Robotic technology is now sufficiently developed to be used as a platform to perform the inspections using established techniques.
